The "Green House That Grows Legs," featured on Channel 4's Amazing Spaces, is an innovative response to a unique client brief. Tasked with creating a beautiful yet functional structure, the designers produced a greenhouse capable of raising itself on legs to protect against seasonal flooding.

The Green House that Grows Legs

The Process

The Product

The building's structure is made from glue-laminated timber, with exposed 'glulam' columns along the main facade. Mirrors bonded to the columns create an ambiguous visual effect, blending the building, its contents, and its surroundings.

Build and Install

This two-and-a-half-week build was where we put our theorized construction and assembly methodologies into practice, following the detailed drawings, all while contending with cold, damp English weather.

Drafting

Production drawings detailed the precise construction elements, such as the glulam timber structure, steel work for the hydraulic rams amd other detailed elements.

Awards

This project was shortlisted for the 2016 RIBA South Award and featured on Channel 4's *Amazing Spaces* as a contender for Shed of the Year, gaining recognition for its innovative design and creative engineering.
